Lots to see out the window! Trees, more trains and tracks, and construction trucks. After about fifteen minutes of that, it took all three adults to entertain this very active, squirmy boy for the next hour!
After arriving in Chicago, we caught the bus right away. Joel thought the bumpy ride was very fun. He loved looking out the window at all the skyscrapers, too.
After all the fun on the train and bus, the aquarium was boring in comparison! Well, not exactly. :) We saw beautiful fish, scary sharks, interesting stingrays, and watched a short little program where a diver fed some fish in the Carribean Reef. While this was semi-interesting to Joel, the popcorn nearby was more interesting. Joel kept asking me, "Do you smell that popcorn?"
Joel had fun "driving" the submarine and playing in the penguin habitat. I, on the other hand, almost had a heart attack when Joel went through a tunnel and I couldn't find the other end. I finally spotted him back up on the slide. He is such a fast little guy!
It was an absolutely beautiful day in Chicago, so we had lunch outside and gazed at the beautiful city and lake.
Soon after we headed home. We were all exhausted. The adults, that is! We love Chicago and are already planning our next summer day there!

your day looks like a blast!!! so glad it was so nice out. it's funny how the transportation there is just as exciting [if not more so] than the actual destination!
what fun! i love how the train and bus we're super fun for joel...isn't it amazing to see the world and rediscover it through a young child's eyes?
and goodness, i am so glad you quickly spotted that speedy little guy on the slide...i totally would have had a heart attack, too!!!
How fun! And it definitely was a beautiful day. Glad Joel liked it so much!
What a great day in the city. The lake and citymyscape sure look beautiful in those outdoor shots and how fun to see Joel exploring all his modes of transportation (train, bus, sub) and fish too. I've had that same sort of WHERE IS HE??? heart attacks too. Kills me! These boys are SO quick. Yikes!
Max would feel the same way! Not that the aquarium wouldn't be fun, but the train and bus to get there would be the best part :) I love that I've actually been to the Shedd Aquarium ... with you guys! Good memories ...
I. Love. Shedd! When we took s there, he fell asleep on the walk to the bus and missed that part... So the *whole* time we were at the aquarium, he was asking "bus? Bus? Bus?" looks like Joel got the best of both worlds!!!
