Nature Adventure

Last month we met up with a friend to visit a local nature center. It's a place I went to when I was little, and I knew Joel and his buddy would really like it. We had to cross some railroad tracks on the way in, and it was pretty hard to pull these boys away from them! They were even choo chooing and pretending to be trains along the track.

We visited the nature building first, which had lots of cool things like snakes, rabbits, fish, bees, and a model of a tree and the roots underground.

After they were done exploring, we headed out to the nature trails. Just a short walk away is a very neat small cave right by the river. We weren't sure how the boys would react, but they just walked right in, and Joel even wanted to go in the little crawl spaces that were pitch black.

After visiting the inside, they decided it would be fun to climb on the outside, too. They scaled up easily, and Joel actually pulled his friend up when he needed a hand. Strong little boy! Of course, the car had to come along. :)

We ended our fun nature adventure with a picnic lunch. We'll definitely be back this summer to do some more exploring and rock climbing!

Hi Chrissy,

Have you ever been to Palisades State Park on the Mississippi just north of Savannah?
Joel, and you two, would enjoy it. Though, you'll have to keep a tight hand on Joel near the bluffs (palisades). As a bonus, the Chicago-Seattle line of the BNSF railroad runs along the base of the bluffs.
And the Chicago-KC line of the CP railroad crosses the BNSF in Savannah before crossing the Mississippi River.
Palisades SP has campgrounds and picnic areas. Many trails through the woods. Hilly area.
Easily doable day-trip. Maybe even tack-on a visit to Galena.

Looks like a great day of outdoor adventure. Cute shots of the boys climbing up (cars and all...of course...we cannot leave the house or go anywhere without at least one truck or car in hand).

This looks like a lot of fun! I love seeing the little explorers enjoy themselves! (And it's fun to see Joel with the longer hair... now that it's been cut!)

What a fun little outing - even the dark, scary cave. Really cute photos of Joel and his friend. Such boys!!
